E. Anne Hendee 1926 - 2008 NORTH BENNINGTON E. Anne Hendee, 82, a longtime resident of Water Street died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, following a long illness. Born at the Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington on May 5, 1926, daughter of Lester and Elizabeth "Bessie" Lakin Robinson, Anne received her early education in Shaftsbury and was a 1944 graduate of North Bennington High School. She later attended the former Henry Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Mass., where she graduated as a registered nurse. Anne later in life returned to college, attending Southern Vermont College, where she received her bachelor's degree in Nursing Administration Anne dedicated 40 years of her life to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, where she was employed as Vice President of Nursing, retiring in 1985. Many of the nurses that cared for Anne these last few months had worked under Anne's direction. She had a great love of God and was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church. Her family and her kittens were her life. Anne was a very kind, loving and giving person. She extended open arms to many people in time of need. In earlier years, Anne enjoyed going to the beach. She leaves her husband, George "Red" Hendee, whom she married Feb. 18, 1950, at the Saint the Baptist Catholic Church. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, JoAnne Hendee of North Bennington; a sister, Jeanne Sorenson and her husband, William, of North Bennington; two brothers-in-law, Jack Hendee and his wife, Pauline, of North Bennington and Roger Hendee and his wife, Barbara, of St. Augustine, Fla; Two sisters-in -law, Barbara Hart of Lincoln, Neb., and Beatrice Wendell of Rutland, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Friday, June 20, 2008 from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington, where the Mass of Ressurection will be offered at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. If friends desire, contributions in memory of E. Anne Hendee may be made to the Vermont through the office of the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
