Earl Bishop, Jr. 1946 - 2009 BENNINGTON, VT Earl G. "Chubb" Bishop, Jr. age 62, a resident of Harwood Way in Petersburgh, N.Y., died on Monday evening, Feb. 2, 2009 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Bennington, Vermont on August 14, 1946, son of Earl Gordon and Mabel Campbell Bishop. Earl received his education in Bennington where he attended Beech Street School and Molly Stark. In 1991 he was very proud to receive his high school diploma. He leaves his first wife, Jeannette Dechene. He later married the former Catherine Kinney of Woodford on Aug.14, 1976. In earlier years Earl worked at BenMont Paper Company in Bennington. Earl later worked for the local union in the construction of the Hunter Plant, and the Clark Art Institute. He has also built several homes including his own on Murphy Road. He had also remodeled a log home in Searsburg, Vt. For 25 years from 1977 until 2002, Earl was employed by the Vermont Highway Department. Earl was a former member of the Bennington Moose Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, fly fishing, hunting, NASCAR and was a Jeff Gordon fan. He also enjoyed four wheeling, snowmobiling, boating and especially his family and grandchildren. He leaves his wife of Cathy Bishop of Petersburgh, N.Y., two daughters, Tina Harding, and her husband Michael, of Louisiana, and Yvette Forrett of Hinsdale, N.H., his step-son Joseph Smith of Petersburgh, N.Y., and a step-daughter, Jeanna Brown, and her husband Joseph, of Pownal, Vt. He leaves 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, three sisters; Lucille Bishop of Bennington, Ruth Jewell of Jaffrey, N.H., and Ellen Coyne of Poultney, Vt. He has four brothers; Herman Bishop of Bennington, Joseph Bishop of Searsburg, James and Amos Bishop of Jaffrey, N.H. A Nephew John Dow who was like a son to him, and he has several nieces and nephews. Earl is predeceased by one daughter Cindy Bishop, a brother Kenneth Bishop, and a sister Francis Rochelle and nephews Kenneth Coyne, and Matthew Rochelle. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be held on Monday afternoon, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT with the Reverend Robin Greene, officiating. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Special thanks to the staffs of the Rensselaer County Hospice, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center ER, ICU and West Wing, and the nurses from the Eddy for their short and long-term care.
