RUPERT -- Earl G. Lewis, 94, of Rupert, died Thursday morning, Jan. 26, 2006, at his residence. He was born November 6, 1911, in Rupert, the son of the late William Henry and Mabel (Saunders) Lewis. He lived in the house where he was born for 91 years of his life. Since October 2002, he had lived with his son, Edward.

Mr. Lewis was a longtime member of the Rupert Methodist Church; a past member and past master of the Mount Anthony Grange 230; a 60-year member, past master, past district deputy and the secretary for 47 years of the Morning Flower Masonic Lodge of Pawlet; a 60-year member, past patron and past district deputy and past grand representative of Evening Flower Chapter of the Eastern Star of Pawlet; a life member of the Scottish Rite in Rutland; and a member of the Consistory in Burlington. He was a 50-year and life member of Cairo Temple Shrine in Rutland; a past member of Washington Pomona Grange 8 and the state and national Grange.

Mr. Lewis was a social member of Modern Woodmen of America Camp 10244 in Wells. Earl was a dairy farmer for many years. In 1962 he went to work for the state of Vermont, continuing with them until his retirement in 1977. Some time later, he worked part-time for four years at Discount Beverage in Manchester.

Earl was pre-deceased by his wife, Elizabeth Ruth (Acome) Lewis, on Feb. 12, 1998, just short of 60 years of marriage, and was also pre-deceased by a granddaughter, Ruth Lewis Kirchner, on Sept. 19, 1998.

Mr. Lewis is survived by three sons and their wives, W. Edward and Marie Lewis of Rupert, Forrest E. (Bud) and Debbie Lewis of Middleport, N.Y., and Donald J. and Marilyn Lewis of Granville, N.Y. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Rupert Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Beth Hutchinson officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in the Rupert Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, N.Y.
