Earl W. Campbell 1922 - 2008 POWNAL, VT. Earl W. Campbell, 86, a resident of Niles School Road, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, following a brief illness. Born in Bennington on March 13, 1922, son of Frank and Florence Thomas Campbell, he received his education in the Bennington schools. Earl had been employed at the Pownal Tannery Company for over 40 years until the time of his retirement. He later volunteered as a driver for the Meals on Wheels program in the Bennington area. In earlier years, he had served as a leader in the Boy Scout program and was also a former member of Council 307, Knights of Columbus. Both Earl and his wife, Jeannette, had also been active members of the Catamount Gadabouts square dancing group. Earl enjoyed reading, tinkering at home and all types of animals, especially his dogs. His wife, the former Jeannette Snow, whom he married June 6, 1942 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in North Pownal, died March 28, 2004. Earl was a wonderful father to his children and their spouses: Craig E. Campbell of Salisbury, N.C., and Gail E. LaBonte, Nola and John Evans, Curtis and Mary Campbell, Susan D. Campbell, JoAnita M. and Stanley Wilkinson, Colleen A. and David Dence and Jason A. Campbell, all of Pownal; 15 grandchildren, Lynn Bushee, Cary, Bruce and Brian LaBonte, Tammy Dumas, Myles and Ericca Campbell, James and Christopher Evans, Stacey and Ronald Campbell, Laurie Pudvar, Becky Wilkinson, David and Robert Dence, 22 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sons, Ronald W. Campbell and Kenneth E. Campbell, and by a daughter-in-law, Gloria Weaver. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11:15 a.m. from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME with a prayer. A Mass of Resurrection will be offered at noon from Our Lady of Lourdes Church in North Pownal. Burial will take place in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. In lieu of flowers donations in Earl Campbell's memory may be made to the Pownal Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
