Obituary Condolences

STRATTON -- Edith Gisquet, 78, resident of New York City and longtime home owner at Stratton Mountain, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, of natural causes. She was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Uberlingen, Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Hilde Zimmermann. Edith was married to Octave Gisquet, who predeceased her.

Edith grew up in Germany at her parents’ farm in Lugwigshafen am See. There she met and married Octave in 1946, who was part of the French occupational troops. Edith immigrated to New York City in 1955 where she made her home with Octave. Together they worked to make the American Dream come true. And they began to enjoy its benefits. Octave was suddenly taken from her and she never recovered. Edith enjoyed traveling in Europe and winter ski vacations to the Arlberg region of Austria. Summer brought her to Vermont where she enjoyed swimming and long walks with friends. She moved through life with dignity and will be long remembered for her elegant style.

Edith is survived by her son, Marcel and daughter-in-law Sharon Gisquet; her two grandchildren, Marina and Vanessa; a sister, Irmgard; her brother, Sep and sister-in-law Resi; her nieces Andrea and Eleanor; her nephew Herman; and many friends who gave much of themselves and comforted her.

There will be a burial service at the Bondville Cemetery on Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at 2 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend and pray for her may attend.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester.
