Two years later, they were permitted to emigrate to the U. S. They arrived by boat in New York City on July 7, 1940. It was there that Edith completed her high school education. In 1946, she received a Bachelor's Degree in French from Hunter College. After graduation, she worked as a medical social worker, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Dr. Morton Jacobson. Edith and Morton raised their two children (Lesley and Jeffrey) in Yonkers and Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Edith dedicatedly took care of Morton for several years before his passing in 1983. At age 65, she earned a Master's Degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Patient Advocacy. For nearly 20 years, Edith spent her summers in Somers, NY and wintered in Palm Beach, Florida. There she made a strong impact on the lives of several children, advocating as a Guardian Ad Litem.
