BENNINGTON/MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS -- Edith M. McLaughlin, 87, a resident of Bennington for 30 years, died peacefully on Thursday morning June 17, 2004 at her East Main St. residence with family at her side. She was born in Whitehall, N.Y. May 20, 1917; the daughter of Frank and Maude (Corey) McLaughlin. She grew up in Middletown Springs where she attended local schools and graduated from Middle Town High School.

Edith enjoyed the home life. She also spent many years in Dorset raising her family and enjoying the rewards of being a mom. She worked for many years cooking and managing the cafeteria at Williams College. In her free time she also liked to read, do crossword puzzles, cook and craft crochet. Edith was an avid gardener and very proud of her flowers. She is survived by her daughters Virginia Weeks of Danby and Barbara Rockwell of Dawsonville, Ga.; her sister, Gertrude Shaw of Bennington; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. She was predeceased by her son Francis McLaughlin, her brothers Ernest and Grant and her sister, Marjorie Moore.

Her cremated remains will be committed to the family plot in Middletown Springs Cemetery during a private ceremony. Those who wish may give memorial gifts in her memory to the Bennington County Hospice, C/O Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester, VT 05255.
