Obituary Condolences

Edith T. McClintock 1923-2011 BENNINGTON, VT Edith Taylor McClintock died peacefully Saturday, October 1, in Bennington, Vt., where she had made her home since January 2010. Edie was born March 17, 1923 in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Alonzo and Mildred Taylor. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in library science and a life-long passion for reading. While in college, Edie met John S. McClintock and they were married in 1946. A growing family of five children and John's work necessitated many moves in Minnesota and Rhode Island. In 1986 they moved to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Edie loved the island, her community at the Federated Church of Edgartown and her volunteer work with the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust. In 2006, John died and Edie lost her anchor of sixty years. Edie never lost her interest in people especially "young" people. She was a prolific writer, and loved to correspond with friends and family. She reveled in the beauty of her surroundings on her daily walks outdoors. She is survived by her children; Marney and Richard Toole of Oak Bluffs, Mass., Todd and Cathy McClintock of Concord, Calif., Lon and Maureen McClintock of Shaftsbury, Vt., and Corey McClintock of Weston, Conn., her grandchildren; Chelsea and Ryan Barbini, Taylor Toole, Vincent and Carole McClintock, Matthew and Carter McClintock and Campbell, Malcolm, and Hunter McClintock, her great grandchildren; Taylor and Phoebe Barbini, Malasia Fisher, Kelliani and Anthony McClintock, A'yannah and Alexander Martel, her sister Jean Dohm of Duluth, M.N., and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son John "Chip" S. McClintock, Jr., a brother Lon Taylor, and a sister Janet Lewis. A Memorial service will be held later this fall on Martha's Vineyard. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, VT.
