Obituary Condolences

WESTON -- Edmond R. Gabert Jr., 73, died on Nov. 17, 2006, at his home, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. The son of Edmond and Rosie (Stevens) Gabert, he was born and raised in Weston.

Gabert was a partner in the H.C. Jacquith Lumber Co., along with his father, and was then an equipment operator for Bromley Mountain, as well as Merrills Excavating.

He was an active member of the American Legion Post #82, past president and life-long member of the Weston Rod and Gun Club, and a past fire chief of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a heavy weapons infantryman with the 461st infantry Battalion.

He was also a member of the Honorable Order of the Golden Dragons, and received a Purple Heart in 1953.

Survivors include his loving wife, Maude Rawson Gabert, whom he married on Nov. 12, 1955; two sons, John Gabert and his companion, Susan Wiehe, and Joel Gabert and his wife, Donna; three grandchildren, Lily, Ivy and Logan Gabert, all from Springfield; a sister, Shirley Green of Bennington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Weston Rod and Gun Club or the Weston Recreation Club.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, Nov. 24, at the Weston Rod and Gun Club at 1 p.m.
