CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Edna S. Young, 95, a former resident of Gilmore Avenue, died Jan. 1, 2008, at the Danforth Adult Care Center in Hoosick Falls. She was the widow of Chester A. Young, who died in 1990.

Born on the Skellie homestead in Cambridge on May 10, 1912, she was the only child of Henry F. and Nettie S. (Perry) Skellie. After graduating from Greenwich High School in 1931, she continued her education at Cobleskill State School where she studied to be a dietician.

She and Chester were married in 1945.

She worked as a teacher’s aide in the Greenwich and Cambridge schools.

For 20 years, Edna was the historian for the Town of Cambridge and also the village of Cambridge.

She was a member of the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Cambridge Historical Society and a member of the Ondawa Cambridge DAR.

In 1998 Edna moved to the Danforth. Her later years were enhanced by a very special relationship with John Gorman, who died before her.

She is survived by her only child Perry Young and his wife Betty and many cousins.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Woodlands Cemetery.
