Edna May Smith

1921 - 2012 BENNINGTON, VT Edna May Smith, age 91, widow of Harold P. Smith, a resident of North Street in Bennington, died on Monday morning, Oct. 1, 2012, at the home of her son, Alan, in White Creek, NY.

She was born in East Arlington, on April 3, 1921, and was the daughter of Herbert W. and Bessie Grant Eastman. She received her education in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1940.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married in Woodford on July 10, 1941. Mr. Smith died in December 1984.

In earlier years, Mrs. Smith was employed at Union Carbide Corporation in Bennington. She retired from there in 1986 after 44 years of service. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Bennington, and currently was attending the Shaftsbury Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith enjoyed taking walks, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Besides her son, Alan, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Patricia, of White Creek; two grandchildren, Melissa Smith of Pownal and Jacob Smith of Shaftsbury. She leaves two great-grandchildren, Melisha and Matthew Smith, also of Pownal, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her sister and all her brothers.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 3, at 11 AM at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, with the Rev. Nancy Wright officiating. Interment will take place privately by her family. There are no calling hours scheduled.
