Edward A. Allen, Sr. 1931 - 2009 BENNINGTON Edward Arnold Allen, Sr., 77, formerly of Valentine St. and a lifelong resident of Bennington, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning July 22, 2009, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Edward was born in Wallingford on Dec. 2, 1931, the son of William Arnold and Alice Bentley Allen and attended schools in Bennington. He worked as a laundry assistant for local dry cleaners for several years and volunteered his time for many causes in the Bennington area, including CAT-TV since 1994 and the Harvest Christian Ministry Food Shelter. Edward enjoyed riding his bike, listening to the radio and to his grandson and son-in-law playing music. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, loved to carry on a good conversation, watch wrestling, and enjoyed his talking parrot. Edward was a former member of the First Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons, and the Loyal Order of Moose for over 11 years and was very active with the Bible Baptist Church, attending all fellowship meetings locally and out of town. Edward cherished times spent with his family, especially around the holidays. Edward leaves his daughters, Theresa Allen, Wanda Main and her husband Barry, Kay Oldham and her husband Leroy, Linda Valch and her husband Harold, and Alice Jean Salisbury and her husband Ron, all of Bennington; his sons, Danny Allen and his wife Melissa, and Edward Allen, Jr. of Bennington; his brother Kenneth Allen of Pownal; his sister Gloria; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Toby Allen; by his sister Janice Fagerholm, and by his great-grandchildren, Bo Curtis Bacon and Clarissa Eve Bacon. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Edward will be Friday, July 24, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Church. Pastor Michael Twardy will conduct the service. Interment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday, July 24, 2009, at the Bible Baptist Church from 12 to 1, one hour prior to the service.
