Edward A. Maynard 1917-2008 BENNINGTON Edward A. Maynard, 90, a longtime resident of Branch Street, died Wednesday April 2, at the Vermont Veterans Home following a brief illness. He was born in Bennington, Vt. Sept. 16, 1917. Son of the late Charles and Josephine Fraher Maynard. He received his education in Bennington where he attended Saint Francis de Sales Academy, he then won a scholarship to Cushing Academy and graduated from Bennington High School. He later attended Saint Joseph's Business College in Bennington where he received an associate's degree in business.A World War II veteran Ed served in the Army where he was a member of Company I. He served aboard the Coolidge Ship which was sunk. Ed had also been wounded while serving in Arunda, Africa. In earlier years Ed had been employed at Eddington's and Thurber's Garage as parts manager. He later was employed as a post man at the Bennington Post Office and for eight years worked at the Vermont Veterans Home from which he retired. He was a member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks # 567, the American Legion Post 13, a charter member of the Bennington Moose Lodge and a former member of the VFW Post 1332 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Maynard was also a former member of the Mount Anthony Country Club where at one time he held the course scoring record. He had also played professional baseball with a Triple A team in Baltimore, Maryland. He leaves his wife Ann Maynard of Bennington. A daughter LeeAnn Bushee and her husband David of Bennington. Three grandchildren Lisa Walasewicz of Weathersfield, Vt. and Jessica and Kyle Potter of Bennington. Two great grandchildren, Laura and Matthew Walasewicz of Weathersfield, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Jean Maynard and a sister Irene Maynard. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home on Saturday April 5, 2008 at 10 am. with Rev. Michael Demasi officiating. Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Friday April 4, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. If friends desire contributions in memory of Edward A. Maynard may be made to the Vermont Chapter of the through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. The following organizations are requested to meet at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday to conduct their services the American Legion Post 13 at 6:30, Bennington Lodge of Elks # 567 at 7:00 p.m. and the Bennington Moose Lodge at 7:30.
