Edward B. Cross 1934 - 2008 BENNINGTON Edward Burton Cross, 74, of Cider Mill Road in Shaftsbury, died Friday evening, Oct. 24, 2008, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, following a long illness. Born in Shaftsbury on Sept. 30, 1934, son of Burton R. and Ella Mae Potter Cross, he received his education in local schools. Edward had been employed as a carpenter at Bennington College for 17 years before retiring. He served with the National Guard for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and pitching horseshoes on Sunday afternoons with his buddies. He was always available to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He leaves his wife, the former Marion Moffitt. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons and their wives, Edward and Pam Cross of Hoosick, N.Y., Ernest and Bonnie Cross of Tennessee, Steven and Linda Cross of Shaftsbury, and Kenneth and Tami Cross of Cambridge, N.Y., and his sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Roger Wood of Arlington; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating at the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington. Interment will follow in the family lot in Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek, N.Y. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Chapter of the through the funeral home.
