Edward J. Barber 1936-2010 NORTH BENNINGTON Edward J. Barber, 74, a resident of Greenwich Street, North Bennington, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness. Born in Bennington July 25, 1936, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Grace (Shepard) Barber. He received his education in Bennington and was a 1954 graduate of North Bennington High School. Ed was a U. S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Patricia Ann Buckbee on October 16, 1959 at the First United Methodist Church in Bennington. Ed was employed at various factories and retail stores in the area until the time of his retirement. A life member of the North Bennington Fire Department, Ed was also a member of American Legion Post 13 and Paren Recreations. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his flower gardens, crocheting and both reading and studying American history. Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Barber of North Bennington; a daughter and son-in-law, Daphne Lyn and Daniel Pratt of Hammondsport, New York; three sons, Arthur Leland Barber and his fiancé Bonnie Paulin of North Bennington, Joseph Edward Barber and his wife Sherry of Shaftsbury and Jacob Vincent Barber of North Bennington; two grandchildren, Tyler Pratt and Grace Barber; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Barber was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Lynn Barber. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery in North Bennington. Should friends desire contributions in Edward Barber's memory may be made to either the North Bennington Fire Department or Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Guest book condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net All members of the following organizations are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday evening to conduct services: American Legion Post 13 at 6:00 p.m. and North Bennington Fire Department at 6:30 p.m.
