Obituary Condolences

DORSET -- Funeral services for Dr. Edward F. Houlihan were held on Monday at Saint Paul’s Church in Manchester.

Officiating the service was Father Gerard Ettlinger, S.J., of Saint John’s in New York and Father John Whalen, pastor of Saint Paul’s. The priests shared words of Ed’s faith, love of Christ and his resurrection into his kingdom, as well as Father Gerard’s personal friendship with Ed.

Dr. Houlihan’s grandchildren Caitlin Palmer read from Wisdom 3:1-3 and Alden John Palmer II read from the Romans 6:39. Eulogies were offered by: Dr. Keith Michl, Mrs. Barbara Reed and Father John Whalen. Serving as organist was Steve Kloser and the soloist was Margaret Dawedeit. The selection of hymns included: “Be Not Afraid,” “On Eagles Wings,” the “Our Father” and “Ave Maria.” A recording of “The Prayer” by Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster was played. Playing the bagpipes was family friend Francis Duchame.

The pallbearers were Anthony DiTomasso, Sal DiTomasso, Vincent Palmisano Jr., Oreste Valsangiacomo, Edward McCarthy and Joseph O’Brien. Committal prayers were offered by Father Ettlinger, S.J., in the Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester Village. Following the services family and friends joined together at the Barrows House in Dorset Village for a time of fellowship.

Dr. Edward F. Houlihan, a resident of Dorset and husband of Lucia, died at his home April 9. He was 71 years old. Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
