Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mr. Edward J. Fraiser, 69, a longtime resident of Elm Street and more recently of Gage Street and the Vermont Veterans Home, died on Saturday morning Sept. 30, 2006 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a brief illness.

He was born in Corinth, N.Y. on Oct. 12, 1936, and was the son of Marion and Helen (Eddington) Frasier. Ed received his education in Bennington and is a graduate of the former Bennington High School class of 1954.

Mr. Frasier was a United States Air Force veteran having served from May 3, 1955 to Oct. 10, 1958.

He married the former Nancy Taylor on Aug. 20, 1960 at St. Francis-deSales Church in Bennington.

Mr. Frasier, in earlier years, was employed at General Dynamics Electric Boat Company, in Groton, Conn., and later as chief mechanical engineer at Tansitor Electronics and at Dodge Machine, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., as a mechanical design engineer. He held a joint patent on a downdraft wood burning stove.

Ed opened E. J. Frasier Business Brokers and later a residential real estate office involved in building and selling homes.

Following his retirement he went to work for the Bennington Banner as a graphic artist. He served one term on the Bennington Select Board. And was a member of the Eagle Hose Company, and the fire company in Groton, Conn. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington and the Bennington Elks Lodge.

Ed was a certified flight instructor and gave lessons and rides at the Bennington Airport. Aviation was his greatest love. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He had recently published a book of poems entitled “For Ordinary People Like Me.”

Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of Bennington; his daughter, Gretchen Dzedzej, of Charleston, S.C.; his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip J. and Robin Frasier, of Bennington; five grandchildren, Krysten Frasier, Kasey Frasier, KathrynFrasier, Michael Dzedzej and Sarah Dzedzej; one half-sister Marilyn Wood of Ansonia, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins including Jim Horst of Bennington, and Ellie, his dog.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis-deSales Church in Bennington. Interment will take place privately. There are no calling hours scheduled. A time of fellowship will follow at the Elks Lodge in Bennington.
