Obituary Condolences

SUNDERLAND -- Graveside services for Edward James Hayes of Sunderland were held on Saturday afternoon at the Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland. The Rev. Thomas Truscott, interim pastor of the Federated Church of East Arlington, officiated. Military honors were provided by members of American Legion Post 69 in Arlington and the Harned-Fowler, VFW in Manchester. The American flag draping Mr. Hayes’ casket was folded by Paul Woodard, John Hoyt and Larry Clayton of Post 69 and presented by Paul Woodard to Mr. Hayes’ son Michael. The gun salute was provided by Steve Byrne, Wink Roberts and Bill McFall of Harned-Fowler Post. Taps were sounded by Woody Strobeck.

Attending the service were several of Mr. Hayes’ horse racing and training associates. Following the service, family and friends gathered at Mr. Hayes’ home for a time turning one of fellowship and refreshment.

Edward J. Hayes, a resident of the South Road in Sunderland and a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II, died on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center at the age of 79.

Service arrangements were under the care of the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
