Edward Joseph Messina 1953-2008 ADAMS, MASS. Edward Joseph Messina, 54, a resident of North Summer Street in Adams, Mass. died Wednesday evening May 7, 2008 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Born Dec. 5, 1953 in North Adams, Mass., son of Fiorino and Laura Trochei Messina, he received his education in Jamaica, N.Y., Pownal and Bennington schools. Edward was a self employed painter for many years and in his earlier years worked for many horse racetracks across the country including working the starting gates, valet services and even entered into breeding race horses. Edward enjoyed deer hunting, riding his Harley Davidson and cherished time spent with his daughter, Claudia. Edward leaves his wife, the former Glenda Sweet, of Adams, Mass. to whom he married on February 23, 2008, his daughter, Claudia, and her mother, Diane, of Sullivan, N.H.; his mother, Laura Messina, of Pownal; his brother, George Messina and his wife, Leslie, of Pownal; his sisters, Angela Darling and her husband, Bruce, and Nancy Clermont and her husband, Robert, all of Pownal and Kathy Park and her husband, Scott, of Williamstown, Mass.; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Fiorino Messina, who died in 1964. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of Edward Joseph Messina will be held Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Pownal Methodist Church. Rev. Gary Dickson will conduct the service.
