Edward Joseph Kaukas

1929- 2012 HOOSICK FALLS, NY Edward Joseph Kaukas, 83, passed away on October 7 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. He resided on Mechanic Street in Hoosick Falls and was a proud resident of Clay Hill, where he was born and raised.

Ed was born on April 16 1929, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., son of the late Pius and Anna Kaukas, both immigrants from Lithuania. He attended Saint Mary's Academy, graduating in 1946 and served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation in Bennington in 1990 and enjoyed over twenty years of active and healthy retirement. Into his 80's he could still be seen in Clay Hill on his tractor digging out his neighbors' driveways on snowy days, on his roof fixing leaks, or chopping firewood in his back yard.

His survivors include his daughter, Lucinda Kaukas Havenhand of Syracuse, New York and his son, Curt Kaukas of Richmond Virginia; their spouses Andrew Havenhand and Susan Keough Kaukas; two step-grandchildren Andy and Courtney Mann of Boulder, Colorado; his two sisters Olga McLeod and Agnes Seveche both of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews including George Kaukas, Jr. of Hoosick Falls. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Joseph and George, and by two sisters, Helen and Alice.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Wednesday October 10 at noon from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. to start of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation through the funeral home.
