Obituary Condolences

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Edward L. Knapp were held from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington Tuesday, July 1, 2003, where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was offered by the Rev. Edward Howard, S.J., pastor. A prayer service at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home preceded the mass.

Serving as an acolyte was Roger Cole. The organist was Louise Gauthier and the soloist was Monica Murray. Hymns offered during the mass were “Be Not Afraid,” “On Eagles Wings,” “Prayer of Saint Francis” and “Here I Am Lord.”

Bearers were five nephews, Raymond Joly, James Deery, Richard Powers, Francis Knapp, Dennis Fraher, and a son-in-law, Peter Tinkham. Serving as an honor guard was A.M.N. 305 Ryan Knapp United States Air Force, McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.

The church pall was placed on Mr. Knapp’s casket by his daughter and son in law Colette and Peter Tinkham. Colette also placed the cross on the casket. The readings were offered by Mr. Knapp’s sister Helen Fraher.

The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by two granddaughters Sara Smith and Michelle Shepard and a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Knapp. Eulogies were offered by Colette and Peter Tinkham and a niece Angie Allard and a nephew, Raymond Joly.

The burial took place in the family lot in the Village Cemetery, Bennington, with Rev. Howard offering the committal prayers. Military Taps were offered by Maurice Rancourt. The flag was folded and presented to Colette Tinkham by Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk.

Mr. Knapp, a former longtime resident of Bennington, died June 26, 2003 at Freedom Village in Bradenton, Fla. Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, Vt., 05201.
