Edward Thomas Lanoue 1964-2011 SHAFTSBURY Edward Thomas Lanoue, 46, a resident of Shaftsbury died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at his residence. Born in Bennington December 19, 1964 he was the son of Theodore (Ted) and Joyce (Thomas) Lanoue. Ed received his education in Bennington and was a graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School. He later attended the University of Vermont before getting his degree from the Albany College of Pharmacy. He married the former Linda Schwab at the Old First Church in Old Bennington on September 24, 1994. Edward was a Registered Pharmacist with a BSPharm from the Albany College of Pharmacy. Since 1996 Ed has developed, implemented, and upgraded pharmacy information and automation technology at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Ed was recognized in 2011 with the team that won the National Way-paver Award for Bedside Medication Scanning excellence. This award brought national accolades to SVMC. He has been published in many journals, most notably in the Journal of Healthcare Infomatics and Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare. Ed has presented his work throughout the United States and in Europe. Ed was known for utter commitment to patient safety and was a cornerstone of the pharmacy and information systems department at SVMC. His hobbies and interests included kayaking, hiking, skiing, camping, computers, movies (Civil War, World War II and James Bond), music and television. Survivors include his wife, Linda Schwab Lanoue of Shaftsbury; his parents, Thedore and Joyce Lanoue and a brother, Gerald R. Lanoue, all of Bennington and several aunts, uncles and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Edward Lanoue will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
