Edward Quinlan Obituary
Edward "Ted" Quinlan

1932 - 2013

BENNINGTON, VT Edward Patrick "Ted" Quinlan died Friday, January 18, 2013, in Bennington.

Ted was born June 12, 1932, at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington to Raymond and Mabel (Purcell) Quinlan. He was a graduate of St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, MA class of 1950 and a 1954 graduate of Fordham University College of Pharmacy in Bronx N.Y. While at Fordham, Ted met Doris Trudeau and they were married December 27, 1952 at St. Georges Church in Chicopee Falls, MA.

Following graduation, Ted and Doris moved back to Bennington, where Ted became the third generation owner/operator of Quinlan's Drug Store, which was founded in 1895. The drug store was a staple in the downtown area well before chain pharmacies existed and Ted took great care of his customers with knowledge, sense of humor and the utmost professionalism. In 1978 Quinlan's closed its doors and Ted moved to Putnam Memorial Hospital now SVMC, followed by CHP, where he continued mentoring the younger pharmacists so the workplace would be professional, and to temper it with the best medicine of all, "smiles and laughter."

After retiring in 1998, he picked up his camera, got into the Mini Cooper. He photographed landscapes, NASCAR Races and draft horse pulls. He was a member of the Eastern Draft Horse Association. Dearest to his heart, was photographing the Route 7/279 interchange job site, where he was welcomed and embraced as "the old man with the camera" complete with issued hard hat and neon vest.

When Ted was not out and about, he was an avid follower of the tour de France, Formula One and NASCAR racing circuits. Ted was a past member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 307 and also a lector at Saint Francis de Sales Church and school board appointee for St. Francis de Sales Academy.

Ted will be remembered by his wife Doris, their daughters Beth-Anne Quinlan of Sunderland, Trude Mann of Bennington, Karen Lamontagne and husband Harold of Keene, N.H.; three sons, Brian Quinlan and wife Mary Jo of Deep Gap, N.C., Daniel Quinlan and his wife Gudrun of Jericho, Vt., and Mark Quinlan and wife Lisa of South Burlington, Vt.; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; To a very special adopted grandson, Al Mondares,"thank you," as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ted was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Quinlan, and sister, Alice Provost.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Graveside committal services will be held in the Spring at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
