Edward Joseph Sossi

1938 - 2014 MANCHESTER CENTER Edward Joseph Sossi, 75, a resident of Village View Road, passed away unexpectedly Thursday Nov. 27, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Edward was born in Newburgh, N.Y. on Dec. 6, 1938, the son of Joseph and Beatrice (Seaman) Sossi and attended local schools. Edward worked as a meat manager for Shoprite Grocery Store in Newburgh for thirty five years. He was a member of the Manchester Lions Club, Knights of Columbus Council 6816 in Manchester, Catholic Committee for Boy Scouts and Christ Our Savior Parish (St Paul's Roman Catholic Church) in Manchester. Ed had been a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, head usher at Christ our Savior parish and past member of the Life Committee. Through his efforts the monthly breakfasts are a great success, student scholarships are awarded and the Scouts achieve rcognition. The Supreme Knight recently acknowledged Ed and his family with a special Family of the month award. Ed was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship by Vermont District 45 of Lions Club International. It the highest award made to a Lion for extraordinary community service. Edward is survived by his wife, the former Marie Mele of Manchester Center, whom he married Oct. 31, 1959; children, Mark E. Sossi of Brownsville, Texas, Luke E. Sossi and his wife, Jessica, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Matthew E. Sossi and his wife, Becky, of San Antonio, Texas, and Beth Frances Asama and her husband, Francis, of Jacksonville, Ill.; and grandchildren, Mark, Lauren, Martin, Thomas, Andrew, Alex, Kyle and Ben. FUNERAL NOTICE: The liturgy of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish (St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church) in Manchester. Interment will follow in the family lot in Factory Point Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
