HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Edward V. Yankus, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. He lived on Wall Street in Hoosick Falls with his wife Mary Frances (McCann) Yankus.

He was born Dec. 9, 1920 in Hoosick Falls, son of the late Ignatious and Mary E. (Grinces) Yankus. Ed was educated at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946-1948, as an aircraft mechanic. He later worked for the Government Service Administration as an auto mechanic. He was communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. Ed enjoyed woodcarving and camping at Eagle Point on Schroon Lake.

Survivors other than his wife Mary include a son Edward V. Yankus Jr. and his wife Vanessa of Hoosick Falls; a sister Anne Yankus of Hoosick Falls and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister Frances Nowak.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home.
