Edward W. Bronson

1923-2013 SHAFTSBURY Edward W. Bronson, age 90, resident of Sycamore Lane, died Sunday, October 20,2013 at his home. Born July 19, 1923 in Taunton, Massachusetts, he was the son of Dewey and Alice (Magoon) Bronson. He received his education in South Shaftsbury and Bennington High School class of 1941 and Becker Jr. College, Worcester, Massachusetts. A World War II veteran, he served with the 20th Air Force in India, China and on the island of Tinian. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Asiatic Pacific Theater medal with one silver star, and Distinguished Unit Badge. He was married to the former Phyllis E. Percey on July 16, 1950 in the Methodist Church in Shaftsbury. In earlier years he had been employed by General Mills, Inc., C. L. White Paint and Glass, Stanley Tools, Inc., and Aerodex, Inc. at Miami International Airport. In 1958 he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Eugene, Oregon as a clerk. In January 1961 he transferred to the post office in Shaftsbury and assumed the position of Rural Letter Carrier. He continued in this position until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Bennington since 1961, American Legion Post 13 40th Bomb Group Assn., and 58th Bomb Wing Assn. His main interests were his church, family and home. Survivors, besides his wife; include one sister, Joyce B. Millington of Brookfield, Colo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial service will be held at the Missionary Alliance Church on Saturday, October 26, at 1 p.m. There will be no calling hours.
