Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Edward W. Griffin, 91, a former long-time resident of County Street, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Mr. Griffin had recently resided at the Danforth Assisted Living Home in Hoosick Falls, N.Y.

Born in Bennington, July 4, 1911, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Lee) Griffin. He received his education at the former St. Francis de Sales Academy and later at Bennington High School.

Mr. Griffin was employed in the ink plant at the former BenMont Paper Company for many years until his retirement in 1976.

Mr. Griffin was a devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. His favorite pastime was reading and fishing.

Survivors include a brother, John P. Griffin and a sister, Agnes Shea, both of Hoosick Falls, two nieces, Ann Graney Hoosick Falls and Kathryn McCauley of Salem, N.Y.; great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mr. Griffin was predeceased by a nephew, Robert Curran and by a great-nephew, Robert Graney.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 25 at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer, and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions in Edward W. Griffin’s memory may be made to Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church through the office of Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
