Edwin M. Christie

1942-2009 MANCHESTER Edwin M. Christie, 67, a former resident of Naugatuck, Conn. and more recently of Manchester, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009 at his residence.

Born in Waterbury, Conn. Sept. 4, 1942, he was the son of the late William and Helen Joyce McCullum Christie.

Ed received his education in the Naugatuck schools.

He married the former Margaret King on Jul. 16, 1960 in Naugatuck.

In earlier years, Ed was employed as a firefighter by the Naugatuck Fire Department and later by the Naugatuck Housing Authority and Associated Boring in Naugatuck.

Ed served as District Forest Fire Warden and had been active in both the YMCA and the Boy Scout program in Naugatuck.

An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Christie of Manchester; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Steven Maynard of South Londonderry and Cathy and Robert Granoth of West Haven, Conn.; four grandchildren, Troy, Sarah and Catherine Maynard and Robert Granoth Jr.; a sister, Jean Christie of St. Petersburgh, Fla. and a brother, William Christie of Waterbury, Conn.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ed was predeceased by a son, John Christie.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Transfer will be made by the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington to the Buckmiller Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue in Naugatuck where funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at 10 a.m.

Friends may call at the Buckmiller Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Burial will take place in the family lot in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck.
