Obituary Condolences

RUTLAND -- Edwin G. Goodell, 73, of 50 Paddock Road, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, after a long battle with cancer.

His wife, Kathleen G. (Grant) Goodell, died in 2003. He leaves three sons, John P. Goodell of Shaftsbury, Gregory E. Goodell of Hudson, N.H., and Alan R. Goodell of Rutland; two daughters, Robin L. Goodell of Worcester, Mass., and JoAnn Hathaway of North Adams, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and a longtime friend, Colleen Kirk of Chesterland, Ohio.

He was born in Greenfield, Mass., on July 24, 1932, and raised in Readsboro, son of Hal T. and Edna (Hutchinson) Goodell, and lived in Greenfield, North Adams, Rutland, Los Angeles, Auroro, Ohio and many years in Leominster, Mass., before moving back to Rutland a year ago. He graduated from the Arms Academy in Whitingham and University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Goodell worked as a design and application engineer for Omnirel Corp. in Leominster many years. Previously he worked at International Rectifier, Silicon General and Sprague Electric Company. He was a member of the American Legion Post 151 in Leominster and enjoyed traveling and taking many trips to Las Vegas with friends.

The graveside service for Mr. Goodell will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Riverside Cemetery, Sherman Road, Whitingham. Memorial calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18 in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Route 12), Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMass Memorial Hospice, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613-9938.
