Obituary Condolences

Edwin R. Blomquist NORTH BENNINGTON, VT. Edwin Renken Blomquist, 88, of Lake Forest, Ill., and North Bennington, died Easter Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill. Born in Evanston, he was educated at Southern Arizona School for Boys, Princeton University, and graduated from Northwestern University, where his family had many generational associations. Both of his parents were graduates of Northwestern University and his family donated the Blomquist gymnasium on the Evanston campus. He was drafted into the Army in the spring of 1942 and, because of his knowledge of foreign languages, he transferred to the Counter Intelligence Corps for three and a half years, where he served in Morocco and Italy. He was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war, he began his own business, Blomquist Reporting Service Inc., a credit reporting agency. Mr. Blomquist was on the board of the North Side Boys' Clubs. He was a member of the Onwentsia Club, University Club of Chicago, and The Princeton Club of New York. Ed and his wife, Carol, loved Vermont, particularly the Green Mountains where Ed first hiked the Appalachian Trail as a summer resident at Middlebury College in 1940. Ed and Carol resided part of the year at Twin Brooks Farm (old Fuller Farm) for the past 18 years. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Carol; a son, Edwin R. Blomquist Jr., and his wife, Belinda, of South Hamilton, Mass.; a daughter, Amy Buckley of North Bennington, and three grandchildren, Lydia, Caroline and Elliot, all of North Bennington. FUNERAL NOTICE: The memorial service was Saturday, March 29, at The Church of The Holy Spirit. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 5040 N. Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60630, The Church of The Holy Spirit, or the Lake Forest Symphony.
