Eileen E. Bluto 1917 - 2008 NORTH BENNINGTON Eileen E. Bluto, 91, wife of Cyril E. "Cy" Bluto, a longtime resident of Pleasant Street, North Bennington, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Oct. 21, surrounded by her family. Born in Wickliffe, Ohio, on Jan. 10, 1917, she was the daughter of Howard and Alice Mack Brooks. She received her early education in Wickliffe, Ohio, and after moving to Vermont was a graduate of Burlington Edmunds High School Class of 1934. Cy and Eileen were married on Nov. 2, 1935, in Burlington and would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this year. In earlier years Eileen was employed in the office of the former H.T. Cushman Company, in North Bennington, for 20 years. When her children were in school she was an active member of the North Bennington School Parent Teachers Association. She was also a former member of the Villagers Home Dem Group in North Bennington and a volunteer on the flower committee at The Park McCullough House in North Bennington. An avid lover of nature, especially her flower gardens, Eileen also enjoyed oil painting. She loved cats and had several during her lifetime. Eileen's home was always open to her family, friends and neighbors. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Eileen's care givers, especially Candy Osgood and Lisa Whitman. She leaves her husband, Cy Bluto, of North Bennington; her children, and their spouses, David and Barbara Jean Bluto of Concord, N.C., Nancy and Michael Jarrett of Williston, Susan Moore of North Bennington and Thomas C. Bluto of Bennington; a former daughter-in-law, Barbara Bluto of Bennington; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Gary Ritchie of Grand Isle; a brother, Edmund Brooks of Addison; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Bluto was pre-deceased by a grandson, Terry Bluto; a son-in-law, James J. Moore Jr.; two sisters, Eunice Poirier and Elsie Watne; and three brothers, Ernest, Eugene and Earl Brooks. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family lot in Grand Isle Cemetery, Grand Isle, Vermont. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mrs. Eileen Bluto may be made to either the BPI Building Fund or to VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
