Eileen N. Thomayer

1930 - 2015 BENNINGTON Eileen N. Thomayer, 84, widow of John J. Thomayer Sr., a resident of Beech Street, died peacefully at home surrounded by her children on Saturday, March 21. Eileen was born in Bennington on August 22, 1930, daughter of the late Amos and Francelia (Maker) Bishop. She received her education in Bennington and was a 1948 graduate of Bennington High School. Eileen and John were married at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Aug. 19, 1950. John died April 10, 2002. In earlier years Eileen was employed at the former EZ Mills in Bennington. She later worked for many years at Union Carbide Corporation, later Everready Battery, until her retirement in 1993. Eileen enjoyed time spent with her family and trips to Hawaii with her husband. Survivors include a son, Henry "Skip" Thomayer and his wife, Cyndi, of Bennington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Francine and Keith "Skeeter" Jelley, and Tami and Shane Greene, all of Bennington; her daughter-in-law, Ann Thomayer, of Bethesda, Md; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Eileen was predeceased by a son, John J. Thomayer Jr., who died May 29, 2009; and by five siblings, Beverly Sargent, Hanry, Edward, Louis, and Amos Bishop. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, March 26, at 11:30 a.m. with a prayer, and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 12 p.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 - 7 pm when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Should friends desire, contributions in memory of Eileen Thomayer may be made to either VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont, or HIS Pantry at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
