Elaine M. McLain

1950-2014 BENNINGTON Elaine M. McLain, 63, a resident of Apple Hill Road, Bennington, died suddenly on Thursday, February 6, 2014 in Orlando, Florida while vacationing with her family. Born on April 14, 1950 in Johnson City, N.Y., she was the daughter of Donald E. McLain and the late Ruth M. (Adams) McLain. Elaine received her early education in Vestal, N.Y. and was a 1968 graduate of Vestal High School. Elaine then attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. and SUNY Binghamton where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. In 1976 she received her Doctorate of Dentistry degree from SUNY Buffalo. Following graduation Elaine accepted a position with the United States Public Health Service as a dentist on the Navajo Indian reservation in Ship Rock, New Mexico. In 1978 she relocated to Shaftsbury where she was a founder of Shaftsbury Dental Associates. Several years later she joined with Dr. Loren Peck to establish a dental practice on Union Street in Bennington where she was practicing at the time of her death. Elaine was a former member of the North East Board of Dental Examiners and was also a member of the American Dental Association. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, needlepoint, jewerly making, traveling, reading and her four grandchildren whom she adored. Elaine was looking forward to her retirement when she planned to spend six months in Ica, Peru and the other six months in Washburn, Wisconsin in order to be near her grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Christie Coleman and Fernando Casas and their daughter , Daniela of Ica; a son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Linda Coleman and their children, Cadigan, McLaine and Annora of Washburn; her father, Donald McLain and her sister, Denise McLain, both of Bennington; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Sue McLain of Vestal; a special niece, Liza M. Bartra, and her children, Quinn and Naveah; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her business partner and good friend, Dr. Loren Peck. In addition to her mother Elaine was predeceased by a sister, Cheryl Ann Campbell. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of life for Elaine M. McLain will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. Friends are invited to pay their respects to Elaine's family on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
