BENNINGTON -- Eleanor Caroline Krauss, 88, a resident of The Village at Fillmore Pond, died on Sunday morning, March 23, 2003 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.

Born in Philadelphia, Nov. 4, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Wilhelmina (Hahn) Schmidt. She was the loving wife of Robert L. Krauss whom she married September 28, 1940.

Her family moved from Philadelphia to Garden City, Long Island in 1950 where she lived until 2000 when she moved to Bennington. Eleanor was active in the Girl Scouts of America, the Garden City Parent/Teacher Association and was a member of the Garden City Community Church and Garden City Country Club.

Eleanor is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Tom Barnes of Garden City and Joan and Bob Edwards of North Bennington; four grandchildren, Lisa Hess of Whitefish Bay, Wisc., Deborah Barnes of Alexandria, Va., Robert Edwards of Ridgefield, Conn. and Christian Edwards of Bennington; five great-grandchildren, Danny, Sophie and Katie Hess, and Abigail and Robert Ross Edwards. She was predeceased in death by her husband, and brother, Christian Schmidt.

There are no calling hours.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
