Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Eleanor Daly, 92, of Rutland, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008.

She was born in Montpelier on Dec. 13, 1915, the daughter of William and Celia (Corbett) Clossey.

Eleanor was a graduateof Montpelier High School and Vermont College. She married John Daly on Sept. 9, 1940, who pre-deceased her on Feb. 8, 2007.

Eleanor was a member of Christ the King Church and TOPS, for many years making wonderful friends there.

In June of 2006, she and John became residents of the Center for Living & Rehabilitation in Bennington where they made numerous friends among the residents and staff. Eleanor also enjoyed working with the RSVP program in Shaftsbury helping schoolchildren with reading.

Eleanor enjoyed cooking, bridge, canasta, flowers and above all, her family. Eleanor loved people and will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are four daughters, Sr. Sheila Daly of Holyoke, Mass., Catherine Corbett Priest and her husband Stephen of Bedford, N.H., Maureen Henderer of South Burlington and Brenda Daly-Weiss and her husband Marc of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; two sons, Michael Daly and his wife Margaret of Bennington and Kevin Daly and his wife Eleanor of Rutland; a sister-in-law Mary Clossey of Richland, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Meghan and James Daly; Shaun Priest and his wife Christine, Timothy Priest; Eoin, Ronan and Declan Daly; Daniel Henderer and his wife Juana, Jeffrey Henderer, Alexander and Matthew Weiss.

She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Francis Daly, and wife Erlene and a cousin, Millicent Dixon.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, associate Pastor.

Private burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Rutland.
