SUNDERLAND -- Eleanor B. Hood, 91, a former resident of Sunderland Hill Road died on Friday, May 4, 2007, at the Crescent Manor Cate Center in Bennington, where she had resided for the past few years. Mrs. Hood was born in Jersey City, N.J., on Sept. 8, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John 0. and Anna M. (Goettsche) Bloorn. She was a graduate of Rutherford HIgh School and Drake Business School and she was a five year graduate of American Savings and Loan Institute of Chicago and continue to take various courses throughout her career for extended study. She had worked as a corporate secretary of Boiling Springs Savings Association in Rutherford, N.J., and had been associated with the company since it’s inception. She was the first woman appointed as chairperson in the New Jersey Savings and Loan League. In 1958, she became executive assistant to the president of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.

She moved from her home in New Jersey to Vermont in 1963, where she worked as a legal secretary for the late James B Campbell. Esq. In 1974 she married Clarence B. Hood of Manchester. Mr. Hood predeceased her on January 17, 1990.

She was a long-time member of the Federated Church of East Arlington.

Mrs. Hood had been a Gray Lady at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for 20 years under the direction of the American Red Cross, retiring in 1996.

She enjoyed traveling, hiking, fishing, especially with her husband and was an avid reader.

She is survived by four step children and long-time friends Carol and John Thornpson. of West Arlington, Michael and Linda DiMonda of Sunderland and Mae Provo of Sunderland.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Hood will take place on Thursday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in the activities room of Crescent Manor Care Centcrs in Bennington, officiating will be the Rev. George Hardy. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place in the family lot in Hillside Cemetery in Rutherford, N.J.
