BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Eleanor M. Jones, 89, a former resident of Silver Street, Bennington, died Sunday, Febr. 11, 2007, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. For the past two years Mrs. Jones had resided at Rivers Edge Community Care Home.

Born in Bennington July 1, 1917, she was the daughter of Ralph Bortell and Lena May (Somers) Bortell. She received her education in the Bennington schools.

Eleanor was first married to James A. MacNeil, who died in November 1957. She later married Wallace E. Jones, who died in 1993.

In earlier years Mrs. Jones was employed at the Allan A. Mill, EZ Mill and Union Carbide Corporation. She later was employed for 20 years at Thomson Manufacturing until the time of her retirement.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church.

Her home and family were her main interest.

Survivors include three daughters, Joan Young and her husband, Victor, of Hingham, Mass., Marilyn Boyle and her husband, Charles, of Arlington, and Carol Prenoveau of Bennington; 11 grandchildren, Victor Young Jr. and his wife, Barbara, Mary Ellen Dalton and her husband, Peter, Lynn Beals and her husband, Richard, Catherine McNeilly and her husband, Jonathan, James Boyle and his wife, Kellie, Keith Boyle, Martin Boyle and his wife, Rebekah, John Playotes, Thomas Playotes and his wife, Sharon, Cindy Hubert and her husband, Rob and Lisa Rogers and her husband, Michael; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by a son-in-law, John Prenoveau and by two brothers, Harold and Charles Bortell.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the prayer service.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Jones may be made to either the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Bell Tower Fund or the American Heart Association through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
