Eleanor Lawrence Norcross 1918-2011 BENNINGTON Eleanor Lawrence Norcross, 93, widow of William T. Norcross, a resident of North Street, Bennington, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Rivers Edge Community Care Home following a long illness. Born in Manchester June 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late George and Mabel (Brophy) Lawrence. She received her early education in Manchester where she was a graduate of Burr & Burton Seminary. Mrs. Norcross later graduated from the Albany Business College in Albany, N.Y. Mr. & Mrs. Norcross were married in Manchester on November 16, 1940. Mr. Norcross died November 4, 1987. Mrs. Norcross was a former member of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Vermont Mayflower Society. A long time volunteer at Putnam Memorial Hospital and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, she had been recognized on many occasions for the countless hours served as a Grey Lady at the local hospital. For many years Eleanor was employed at the former Fashion Fair in Bennington. An excellent seamstress, she also loved knitting and will be lovingly remembered by many for the countless Icelandic sweaters and Christmas stockings that she made for her family and friends. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marian and Steve Huepper of Sanford, North Carolina; a son-in-law, Keith Armstrong of Pownal; six grandchildren, Penny Acree (Scott), Karen Smith, Gail Delurey (David), Sarah McCart (Scott), all of Hoosick Falls, Jeff Huepper (Renee) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Greg Huepper Sherry of Concord, North Carolina; fifteen great-grandchildren, Brett and Lauren Acree, Tyler, Ashley and Kate Smith, Zach, Aaron and Grace Delurey, Connor, Evan and Emma McCart, Mason and James Huepper and Kendal and Jackson Huepper; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband Mrs. Norcross was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Armstrong, two brothers, Frederick and Albert Lawrence and her beloved dog "Mac". FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, November 18, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Michael Morneault officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
