Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- A celebration of the life of Eleta Gates Schnurr was held on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 6, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Musical selections for the celebration included “Amazing Grace,” “On a Hill Far Away,” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”

Mrs. Schnurr’s granddaughter Cheryl Cottrell offered remembrances and read a poem she had written to her grandmother. Interment services followed at the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington, where Pastor Drosky offered the words of committal, including the poem, “Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep.” A time of fellowship followed at the VFW Post No. 1332 of Bennington.

Mrs. Eleta Gates Schnurr, 78, a former resident of Fillmore Street in Bennington and Sumner Drive in Wilmington, and more recently of Morgan Street in Bennington, died on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.
