Elizabeth Ann "Liz" King 1933-2012 SHAFTSBURY Elizabeth Ann (Harwood) "Liz" King, 78, wife of James D. King, a resident of Cleveland Avenue, Shaftsbury, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Albany Medical Center. Born at the family home in Shaftsbury on August 9, 1933, Liz was the daughter of the late Rupert and Mabel (Montgomery) Harwood. She received her early education in the Shaftsbury schools and was a 1951 graduate of North Bennington High School. Liz and Jim were married in Manchester on May 29, 1958. Prior to retirement Liz had been employed at various municipal and state offices in the Bennington area. A member of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington, Liz enjoyed crafts, gardening, reading and time spent with her family. Survivors include her husband, James D. King of Shaftsbury; her children, Linda Paquin of Shaftsbury, Terry King and his wife Allison of Bennington, Lisa McGuire and her husband Peter of Shaftsbury and Toni King and her husband Brian Hovey of Hampden, Maine; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Liz was predeceased by three brothers, Victor, Raymond, and Arthur Harwood, and a son-in-law, John Paquin. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at the McGuire residence, 333 Cleveland Avenue, Shaftsbury. At Liz's request there will be no visiting hours held. Burial will take place in the family lot in South Shaftsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elizabeth King's memory may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
