CHERRY PLAIN, N.Y. -- Elizabeth M. Carr Cipperly Gilcher, 86, formerly of Gilcher Lane, died on Saturday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Ellen and Jerry Strait of Guilderland where she has resided for the past two years.

Born Sept. 16, 1918 in Petersburgh, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence D. and Gladys Pettit Carr. She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School and Troy Business College.

Mrs. Gilcher worked for the US Selective Service; various law offices in Hoosick Falls; Berlin Taconic Valley Bank and Berlin Town Library. She was a secretary for the Berlin School District retiring in 1980. Mrs. Gilcher was a treasurer for the Pleasant Valley-Meadowlawn Cemetery Association in Petersburgh, treasurer for the Cherry Plain Community Church, trustee of the Petersburgh United Methodist Church and a Sunday school superintendent for the Berlin United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her first husband, George E. Cipperly; her second husband, Edwin L. Gilcher; a son, Richard D. Cipperly; and a sister, Millicent Carr.

Survivors include her two children, Ellen A. (Jerry) Strait of Guilderland and Stephen L. Cipperly of Schenectady; grandchildren, Daniel and Jamie Cipperly, Jennifer Purzycki, Stephanie Neaton, Colleen Strait, Tracy (Joe) O’Connor; great-grandchildren, Skye Purzycki, Noah Melnick and Matthew O’Connor.

A celebration of Mrs. Gilcher’s life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at 6:30 in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh. The family will have a fellowship at the funeral home immediate follow the service.

Mrs. Gilcher requested that in lieu of flowers, final bequest be made to the Pleasant Valley-Meadowlawn Cemetery Association, 1 Main St., Petersburgh, N.Y. 12138.
