Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Elizabeth M. “Betty” Marcoux were held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church where the Mass of Resurrection was offered by the Rev. James Preskenis, pastor. Assisting, on the altar was Deacon David O’Brien.

Serving as Acolytes were John Reed, Leonard Anzivino, Francis Sausville and Gerald McMurray.

The organist was Donald McMahon who was accompanied on the violin by Betty’s granddaughter Michelle Alexander. The soloist was Melissa Buckley. Musical selections offered during the Mass were “Amazing Grace,” “Prayer of Saint Francis,” “Be Not Afraid” and “Here I Am Lord.” A grandson-in-law John Connell sang “How Great Thou Art.”

The pall was placed on the casket by Mrs. Marcoux’s children Donna Alexander, Jo-Ann Luth and Jeffrey Marcoux. A wooden cross was then placed on the casket by Betty’s husband, Lionel.

The Old Testament reading was offered by Betty’s granddaughter Paula Alexander-Salszar. The gospel was read by Deacon O’Brien. The New Testament was offered by Betty’s daughter Donna. The Offertory Gifts were presented by Betty’s children Donna, Jo-Ann and Jeffrey.

Words of remembrance were offered by a longtime family friend, Leonard Anzivino, and Betty’s daughter Jo-Ann.

The burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Preskenis and Deacon O’Brien offering the committal prayers.

A reception followed the service at the Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Parish Center. A prayer service at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass.

Serving as pall bearers were Betty’s son Jeffrey, a grandson Shawn Alexander, a son in law William Luth, a nephew William McCoy and two grandsons in law Bernardo Salazar and John Connell. Honorary bearers from the St. Anne’s Society were Theresa Agliere, Shirley Barnhardt, Doris Bourgeois, Rachel Kinney, Jenaette Pierce and Ceil Potter.

Monday evening the calling hours were largely attended by former co-workers family and friends. The wake service was offered by Father Preskenis. The Rosary was offered by members of Saint Anne’s Society, of which Betty was a member.

Mrs. Elizabeth M. “Betty” Marcoux, 84, a well known resident of Bennington, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in St. Louis Park, MN. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
