1926 - 2015 POWNAL Elizabeth "Libby" Mattison, 88, a resident of Old Military Road entered into heaven with her Lord and Savior on Thursday November 5, 2015 following a brief illness. She was born in Bennington, VT December 9, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Donald and Armida (Peterson) MacLean. Libby received her early education in Shaftsbury and was a 1942 graduate of Bennington High School. She later graduated from Saint Joseph's Business College. On June 29, 1946 Libby married Wallace Mattison at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington. In earlier years Libby worked in the office of Judge Feinberg. She later worked at the Ben Mont Paper Company where she was the first Key Punch Operator in the state of Vermont. Libby later worked for the Department of Social Services as a Supervisor Secretary from which she retired. She enjoyed gardening, reading and bird watching. Her family was her main interest. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Wallace Mattison of Pownal, VT. Their children, Linda Saia and her husband, John of Essex, VT, Maureen Sprague of Bennington, Gail MacJarrett and her husband, Gerald of North Bennington and Carol Tifft and her husband, David of Milton, VT; Three grandchildren, Candace Lewis and her husband, Tony of Georgia, VT, Sean Vallie of White River Junction, VT and Daniel Tifft and his wife, Emy of Essex Junction; Four precious great-grandchildren, Mattie and Anika Lewis and Erik and Ethan Tifft; Two brothers, William MacLean and his wife, Janet of Sarasota, FL and Randolph MacLean of Troy, New York; Her dear friend, Anna Mattison of Bennington and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Andrea. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Sunday November 8, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral on Monday November 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery. If friends desire contributions in memory of Elizabeth Mattison may be made to ones favorite charity through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
