SALEM, N.Y. -- Elizabeth Clark Shaler, 82, of Salem, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Glens Falls Hospital with her family at her side. Betty, born July 24, 1925, in Salem, was the daughter of the late Horace Morse and Anna Mary Keys Clark. She was a 1944 graduate of Salem Washington Academy.

Betty was a paralegal for the law office of Briggs, Wilson & Tomasi in Salem for many years and at the same time, she was the business manager for Shaler Trucking in Salem for 50 years. Betty was a long-time member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Salem where she served as an Elder for 18 years. She was also a member of the Francis J. Clark American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Republican Women’s Association. Betty enjoyed watching antique tractor pulling, reading, gardening and especially enjoyed her family.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, J. Elwood Shaler, whom she married Sept. 9, 1945; her children, Joanne Shaler Larmon and her husband William Milton Larmon of Daytona Beach, Fla., John “Jack” Shaler and his wife Cherry Dunbar Shaler of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Jane Clark Salisbury of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Regina Shaler of Shaftsbury, Vt. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also pre-deceased by a son, Andrew Clark Shaler, in 2000 and an infant sister, Lorraine Clark.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at 3 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church of Salem, West Broadway with the Rev. Kyle Perrot and the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Salem. Memorial contributions in memory of Betty may be made to the Salem Vol. Fire Dept., Salem, NY 12865.
