BONDVILLE-- Betty Spencer, 95, a seasonal resident of Bondville since 1959 and former resident of Stamford and Morris, Conn., died at her Equinox Terrace residence in Manchester where she lived for the past five years. She was born in Greenwich, Conn., Feb. 3, 1908, the daughter of Walter and Ethel (Dayton) Edwards.

She grew up in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School. Betty continued her education and went on to graduate from the Connecticut College for Women. In her earlier years, she worked as a secretary for the president of Pitney Bowes. She married Frank Spencer and raised a family. Mr. Spencer died in 2002.

Betty loved to read and always supported her local library. She worked part-time at several libraries. She was also a lifetime volunteer and supporter of the Red Cross. She was a great cook and enjoyed gardening. Betty enjoyed a good game of bridge. Her family and friends will miss her upbeat and optimistic ways.

She is survived by her son, John Spencer and his wife Ann of Bondville; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Molly Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Equinox Terrace. The Rev. Jordan Dickinson will officiate. Her cremated remains will be scattered next to her husband’s site in a favorite family wood lot.
