CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Mrs. Ellen Darby Livingston, 92, a resident of Cambridge Guest Home for Adults, died on Tuesday morning, June 15, 2004, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.

Mrs. Livingston was born on April 7, 1912 in Alburg, Vt., the daughter of Aubrey Wells and Grace (Cheeseman) Darby. After her mother’s death in 1915, she was raised by her beloved stepmother, Hattie Lessor. Ellen graduated from business college in Burlington, Vt. and was employed there by Green Mountain Power Co. and UVM. She later worked for many years as an accountant in the tri-city, New York-area where she resided with her family.

In September 1937 Ellen married Milton C. Livingston. Mr. Livingston died in 1996. Their son, genealogist Darby Gary Livingston, died in September 2002. She was also predeceased by a brother, Arthur Darby.

A dedicated homemaker and devoted Christian, Mrs. Livingston enjoyed her friends and antiques, retaining a sharp intellect to the end of her long illness. She was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her nephew Alan Darby of Alburg, Vt.; grandnieces Charity Darby, Heather Darby, Tracy Rossi, Nancy Davis, Louise Davis and Constance Merriman; cousins Marjorie Lessor of N.H., Paul E. and Priscilla Virtue of Cambridge and Don B. and Nancy H. Otis of Manchester, Vt.; and special friends Ruth Rudd of Hoosick and Dr. Michael J. Welther of Arlington, Vt.

Graveside committal services for Mrs. Livingston will be held on Friday, June 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington, Vt. The Rev. Canon Robert Miner, rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington, will officiate. There are no calling hours planned.

Contributions in Mrs. Livingston’s honor may be made to the Cambridge Rescue Squad or Second Chance Animal Shelter in care of the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
