SHAFTSBURY -- Ellen P. Dickie, 72, wife of Edwin D. “Bud” Dickie, a resident of Reservoir Road, Shaftsbury, died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at her residence.

Born in Bennington on Jan. 12, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James and Louisa (Olin) Cross. Ellen received her education in the Bennington schools and was a 1953 graduate of Bennington High School.

Ellen and Bud were married in Bennington June 29, 1957. Ellen was employed at Bijur Lubricating Company for 35 years until her retirement in 1997.

Her favorite time spent was that with her children and grandchildren. She shared in the family passion for harness racing and also enjoyed going to the casino in Saratoga and eating out.

Survivors include her husband, Bud Dickie, of Shaftsbury; a daughter, Wendy Dickie, of Shaftsbury; three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Catherine Dickie of Shaftsbury, Terry “T.J.” and Rebecca Dickie of Shaftsbury and Timothy and Kellie Dickie of Schuylerville, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Ben Dickie and his wife Aaron, Aaron, Abby, Darrick and Sarah Dickie and Carson Morgan; a sister, Dorothy Dickie of Bennington; three brothers, Merton Cross of White Creek, N.Y., and Roger and Leonard Cross of Bennington; an aunt, Grace Pacitto of Shaftsbury; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. Ellen was predeceased by a brother, John Cross.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Shaftsbury officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ellen Dickie’s memory may be made to either the Vermont Lung Association or the Vermont Diabetes Association through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
