Obituary Condolences

SUNDERLAND -- Ellen M. Jennings, 69, of North Road in Sunderland, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H.

She was born in Rawsonville on Jan. 6, 1936, the daughter of Howard L. and Marion L. (Sprague) Mason and attended local schools. She graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary, class of 1953, and attended the Community College of Vermont for two years.

Ellen worked as a sander for the Hale Company in East Arlington for many years. She was a member and past president of both the VFW Post 6471 Ladies Auxiliary in Manchester and the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington. She enjoyed organizing bingo parties for the VFW and American Legion, putting on dinners at the American Legion and was responsible for the Lions Club suppers. Ellen was a member of the East Arlington Federated Church; she was a town of Sunderland select board member and was the Sunderland Cemetery Commissioner. Ellen cherished times spent with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Dale H. Jennings, whom she married on March 17, 1960 in Shushan, N.Y.; one son, Steven H. Perry of Gallway, N.Y.; her daughter, Deborah Lynn Jennings of Eldred, N.Y.; a step-brother, John C. Mason of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; her step-sister Barbara Benjamin of Arlington; three grandchildren, Josh and Kim Perry and Steven Combs; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Howard and Caroline H. Mason.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennings will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the East Arlington Federated Church. There are no visiting hours. Committal services will be private. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held in Bailey Hall immediately following the service.
