Ellen M. Wassick 1921 - 2009 BENNINGTON Ellen M. Wassick, 88, widow of Steven T. Wassick Sr. a resident of Coolidge Ave., passed away early Sunday morning March 29, 2009 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on Jan. 5, 1921, Ellen was the daughter of George and Flora MacDonald MacArthur. Ellen received her education in Sydney, Nova Scotia. In earlier years, Ellen was employed as a telephone operator by New England Telephone Company in Bennington, Vt. Ellen enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and working with her beautiful window boxes and extensive flower pots. She also had a reputation as "an amazing cook". Ellen leaves three children; Harriette A. Wassick Moore, Steven T. Wassick Jr., Donald A. Wassick and daughter-in-law Kimalie Wassick all of Bennington, six grandchildren, Michelle Moore of Fairfield, Conn., Christopher J. Moore of Shaftsbury, Vt., Jonathan Moore of New Lebanon, N.Y., D.J. Wassick of Malibu, Calif., Ali Wassick of Stratton, Vt., and Portia Wassick of Shaftsbury. Three great-granddaughters, Olivia Casey-Moore of Shaftsbury and Sydney and Sophie Kay of Fairfield, Conn., as well as several nieces and nephews. Ellen was pre-deceased by four sisters Christine Lorom, Bella Merlin, Mae MacLean and Annie Umbrite. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced celebrating Ellen's life. Contributions can be made in Ellen's memory to either the Bennington Rescue Squad for their endless services or the Second Chance Animal Shelter, which held a special place in her heart through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
