Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Ellen M. Welch were held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Friday morning. Conducting the service was the Rev. Robin Greene, pastor of the Vermont Veterans Home. Personal reflections and memories were shared by Mrs. Welch’s granddaughter, Rachel Briggs, assisted by her sister, Bonnie Stratton. Rachel also read a poem written by her grandfather, Ed Welch, entitled “Wishing You Were Here.”

The song of meditation, a recorded musical selection sung by Mr. Welch, was “Blue Eyes.” Mrs. Welch’s daughter-in-law, Lucilyn, sang “Smile.” Her singing always brightened Mrs. Welch’s day. A memorial reception followed the service at the Beech Street Firehouse of the Bennington Rural Fire Department.

Interment will take place in the family lot in the White Chapel Cemetery in the spring.

Mrs. Welch is survived by her two half-brothers, Mark Stratton and Ronnie Stratton, and her half-sister, Marlene Stratton.

Mrs. Welch, 72, a resident of Morgan Street, died on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
